"Icons are the windows to heaven,"
Such are the icons of Antoine M. Solounias.
Antoine is a renowned Byzantine iconographer. He has been "writing" icons for over 35 years. Born in 1948, and raised in Lebanon, Antione was inspired to write icons at the young age of 10. He was influenced by his father Michel - Greek master iconographer - of the early 1900s, who studied at Mt. Athos with all the great iconographers and immigrated to Lebanon after World War II.
Antoine studied under his father and later went to Mt. Athos himself to continue his studies. He has traveled extensively throughout Greece, Egypt, the Middle East, and Italy to study and work. In 1980, Antoine traveled to the United States and has been commissioned to do works for the Antiochian, Greek, and Russian Orthodox Churches.
Antoine is truly a Byzantine iconographer, who has inherited the spiritual dimension and understands the nature of existence and the essence of it. To understand why is deeply ingrained into his consciousness.
